OUR STORY: A JOURNEY OF CONSTANT EVOLUTION

From the early beginnings of the community to the development of a tourism model with real impact.

1970 - 1990 — THE BEGINNING OF A COMMUNITY

The first families arrived in the Añangu territory, followed by others from different areas of the Amazon. This process marked the beginning of the community, built on collaboration, shared living, and respect for nature.

Over the years, these families strengthened their organization, reinforcing their identity and laying the foundations for a community-based model focused on sustainability and the responsible use of natural resources.

1998 — A COMMUNITY TAKES SHAPE

In 1998, the Kichwa Añangu Community was formally established as an organized and empowered structure, capable of managing its territory and shaping its own future. This marked a key turning point in collective decision-making.

From then on, the community began to develop a model rooted in self-governance, environmental stewardship, and sustainable initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of its people.

2010 — EMPOWERING WOMEN, PRESERVING CULTURE

The Kuri Muyu Interpretation Center was created as a community-led initiative driven by women. It represents a significant step toward women’s empowerment and the preservation of Kichwa cultural heritage.

Through this project, new economic opportunities have emerged while ancestral knowledge continues to be shared, reinforcing cultural identity and the vital role of women within the community.

2012 — YASUNÍ ECOLODGE IS BORN

As part of a vision for diversification and growth, Yasuní Ecolodge was established, expanding the community’s tourism offering and reaching new segments of travelers interested in nature and wildlife.

This new project strengthened the sustainable tourism model, combining authentic experiences with a strong focus on biodiversity, and positioning the community as a benchmark for conservation and responsible tourism in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
