A story of conservation and hope
For the second consecutive year, the Harpy Eagle has chosen the protected territory of the Kichwa Añangu Community to nest. Its return represents far more than an extraordinary wildlife encounter: it is evidence that a well-conserved forest can continue to provide refuge, food and the conditions required for one of the Amazon’s most emblematic raptors to reproduce.
The species depends on extensive areas of mature rainforest, large trees and healthy ecosystems. Its presence in Añangu territory reflects the community’s long-term commitment to forest protection, biodiversity conservation and a responsible tourism model designed to preserve this territory for future generations.

A private three-day expedition designed for travelers seeking a focused Harpy Eagle experience in Yasuní, combining responsible wildlife observation with rainforest exploration, canoe navigation and some of Yasuní Ecolodge’s signature experiences.
Arrival in Yasuní
Begin your journey with a scenic flight to Coca, followed by a private transfer to our dock and an approximately two-hour motorboat journey along the Napo River to Yasuní Ecolodge. Upon arrival, our team will welcome you with a traditional guayusa beverage and snacks before accompanying you to your cabin overlooking the Amazon rainforest.
In the afternoon, walk to the 40-meter observation tower, where there are opportunities to observe colorful birds, monkeys, toucans, parrots and other wildlife while enjoying panoramic views of the Amazon. Alternatively, you may choose a sunset kayak excursion along the Napo River before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Harpy Eagle Observation Experience
Travel by paddle canoe and continue on foot through terra firme forest toward the authorized Harpy Eagle nest observation area. At the viewing point, remain at a respectful distance and in complete silence to protect the natural behavior of this emblematic raptor and avoid interfering with its nesting process.
With some luck, there may be an opportunity to observe the chick or one of the adults around the nest. After the observation experience, continue along the Tiputini Trail and navigate by canoe toward Napo Wildlife Center, where you will enjoy its facilities and a regional lunch before beginning the return journey to Yasuní Ecolodge.
Guayusada & Departure
Early in the morning, you may optionally participate in the traditional guayusada ritual, beginning at approximately 4:30 a.m. During this experience, a Kichwa family shares the ancestral guayusa beverage, traditional songs and knowledge passed down through generations.
After breakfast, begin your return journey by motorized canoe and boat toward Coca, enjoying one final opportunity to admire the landscapes of the Ecuadorian Amazon before concluding your expedition.
4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS — Harpy Eagle Expedition

After breakfast, travel by paddle canoe along the Añangu River before beginning a guided walk through the Tiputini Trail, one of the best-preserved areas of terra firme forest in Yasuní. Along the way, there is the possibility of observing spider monkeys, woolly monkeys, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, three-toed sloths and other wildlife while your guides interpret tracks, signs and the dynamics of the forest.
At midday, visit the Harpy Eagle Observation Tower, inaugurated in April 2025. From this elevated viewpoint, enjoy panoramic views of the Amazon canopy and another opportunity to observe the Harpy Eagle, as well as toucans, macaws, parrots and other species that inhabit the treetops. After lunch, return through the forest and along the Añangu River toward Yasuní Ecolodge.

How many guests can join the expedition?
The Harpy Eagle Tour is designed as a private expedition for a maximum of six guests.
Is Harpy Eagle sighting guaranteed?
No. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Observation opportunities depend on the natural behavior of the species, weather conditions and conservation protocols.
Is the Harpy Eagle observation area open to everyone?
Access is controlled and visits are carried out only within the authorized observation area, accompanied by your private naturalist guide and following strict conservation guidelines.
What should I bring for the observation experience?
We recommend neutral-colored clothing, binoculars and, for photography, a telephoto lens of 400 mm or longer. A tripod, monopod or gimbal can also be useful.
Can the itinerary change during the expedition?
Yes. Activities may be adjusted depending on weather, wildlife activity, operational conditions and conservation requirements.
Are flights to Coca included?
No. Quito–Coca–Quito flights are not included in the expedition and can be arranged separately with our travel team.
